Garth Mountain Route 3
Follow the first part as for Routes 1 and 2.
About 200m after the cattle grid you'll see a path on your right - leading directly up the hill. (It's alongside the old mine adit).
Walk through the trees to reach the grassy, sometimes bracken enclosed, path.
Thousands of people have, over the years, left footholds in the steep track - but it can still be slippery in wet weather.
After reaching the rocky outcrop of Garth Mountain, get your breath back, then keep going up the next section of path.
Follow until it splits in two. Go right and descend the grassy slope (also deceptively slippery when wet). This section, below the stile, can be a little hazardous, either because of mud or unsure footing due to dust and loose stones - so take care.
When you reach a principal path, turn right and walk back down to Gwaelod y Garth.
Looking towards
Pen y Fan.
