Garth  Mountain Route 1

Begin at the primary school next to  the Taffs Well Inn. Outside school hours it’s usually easy to park nearby.
Walk down the lane (bearing right) and cross the bridge over the River Taff.
At the top of a steep zig zag path into Gwaelod y Garth, turn right onto the roadway.
After about 150 metres turn left at the Gwaelod y Garth Inn and follow the road up the steep hill, including a hairpin bend.
Keep on the ascending road, passing a cattle grid, a ruined barn and pretty pink cottages, until you reach another hairpin bend. Turn right, leaving the roadway and onto a steep path up the hill.
Hike all the way to the largest tumulus - the one with the trig point at the very top of Garth Mountain.
Follow the long path west (which is a part of the Ridgeway Walk) along the flat mountain top, taking the path that bears right.
Descend and climb again to a vantage point overlooking theTaff Valley and much of Cardiff.
Take the descending path to your right, along a narrow and deeply rutted path, which becomes rocky and sometimes very muddy.
Rejoin the route back to Taffs Well.

Footpath over the river at Taffs Well.
